NZSAR Consultative Committee

The New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Consultative Committee was established in November 2003. The Committee consists of representatives of a number of key agencies operating in the search and rescue sector.

What does the Consultative Committee do?

The Committee:

  • serves as a link between the Secretariat and SAR providers and
  • serves as a forum for all SAR stakeholders, including voluntary groups
  • provides a channel through which issues generated at an operational level are fed into the governance process.

Who is represented on the Consultative Committee?

The Committee consists of representatives from the following organisations:

Amateur Radio Emergency Communications

AREC is the public service arm of Amateur Radio who's members provide communications for Search and Rescue at multiple levels.

Ambulance NZ Logo. Ambulance New Zealand

Ambulance New Zealand represents the collective interests of the range of New Zealand ambulance services. Many SAR incidents involve the attendance of ambulance personnel to assist in the application of initial medical aid, and the transportation of SAR victims to medical facilities.

The New Zealand Federation of Commercial Fishermen is a national body that represents the interests of owner-operator commercial fishermen in New Zealand.

The New Zealand Search and Rescue Secretariat is modelled on the Canadian National SAR Secretariat and is comprised of a Secretariat manager and a Senior Advisor.
